After a couple of months of planning, Elia's birthday came and went. It's funny how time flies when you are having fun. But let’s be honest, first birthdays are really for the parents and not the kids. Since I was really throwing a party for myself for surviving the first year of motherhood, I chose a theme that would FINALLY let me buy a giant flamingo float. People tell me it looks like a ton of hard work but this is what I do for a living and I love it! I also don't get to do much of planning and execution for the events I book at work so I very much enjoyed planning every little detail of Elia's birthday party. Even if you don't love throwing parties, really all you need is a vision, some strategic shopping aka Amazon Prime and creativity aka Pinterest. I love the fact that Elia's birthday is in the summer because I always have to plan my birthday parties in the winter when it is cold. Right away I knew we had to have the party at the beach or at the pool. Because of where we live, it made sense to have it at the pool. When I started thinking about a theme, flamingos was the easy choice. They are very in this season and you can find them in clothes, home decor, food, the list goes on and on. For keepsakes, I ordered flamingo float drink holders for the adults and for the little ones, I contacted Cookies by Kate who made the most amazing custom flamingo cookies with Elia's name. I also decided to have the birthday party catered so I didn't have to cook for 50 adults and their little ones. We have the food catered by HyVee for the cheese & meat tray, veggies and cold sandwiches and hot appetizers by our dear friends Pram and Julie who own Bandung Restaurant here in Madison. I ordered three cakes from Whole Foods. We ate two of them at the party and saved the small one for Elia to smash on her actual birthday! I got the Flamingo 1 cake topper from "Decorate your Big Day" here and I the other two cake toppers from the Paper Source at Hilldale. One "happy birthday" sign and a "1" gold sparklee wand we lighted up instead of a candle. Happy Birthday Sparkler Wand Happy Birthday silver baloons
